Editor-in-Chief of Nature visits ShanghaiTech

A delegation led by Magdalena Skipper, Editor-in-Chief of Nature, visited ShanghaiTech University on June 21. The group was warmly welcomed by Jiang Mianheng, the Founding President of the university.


At the meeting, Jiang Mianheng provided a brief introduction to the development of ShanghaiTech, covering its history, student cultivation, academics and research, and international cooperation. He also detailed the large-scale scientific facilities undertaken by the university. Magdalena Skipper expressed her appreciation for the warm reception and commended the university’s rapid growth and the high quality of its research outputs. She also discussed Nature’s development strategy. The meeting facilitated dialogues on topics such as scientist training and research publication. Attendees included, Vice President Jiang Ge; Executive Director of the iHuman Institute, Liu Zhi-Jie; Executive Director of the Shanghai Institute for Advanced Immunochemical Studies, Yang Haitao; and Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs, Nie Yan.




After the meeting, the delegation proceeded to the Y Building, where they engaged in an interactive session with dozens of young scholars specializing in life sciences, physical sciences, biomedical engineering, and related areas. The session focused on aspects of journal publishing, with the scholars posing specific questions about ways to improve the efficiency of paper submissions, strategies for selecting the right journal for their research, and tips for effective communication with editors.




The delegation also toured the Shanghai HIgh repetitioN rate XFEL and Extreme light facility (SHINE).
